As a professional who is a part of the wedding world, I’m familiar with styled shoots. But to my non-wedding world friends and family, an explanation was necessary. What is this? Why are you doing it? Basically, "What’s the deal with styled shoots?”
The deal is that wedding professionals love weddings. So much so that being a part of your big day is sometimes simply not enough. We want to create our own ‘big day’ in a sense. It usually begins when a couple of vendors who admire one another’s work decide they want to work together. Maybe because they’ve never gotten the chance to on an actual wedding, or maybe because they’ve worked together countless times, but have a great idea that needs to come to life.
So let’s say, over coffee in the late fall, as wedding season winds down, a coordinator and a florist dream up a certain tablescape. They decide they’d love to work with a certain photographer. And that photographer knows an amazing hair and makeup team. While researching invite inspiration they find the perfect dress. And there’s a venue that they’ve all been wanting to get to know better that would be perfect for the vibe they’re going for. And so on and so on until all of the pieces of the styled part of a wedding day come together.
And sometimes, if you're really lucky, you have a blog that is waiting to publish your shoot before you’ve even pulled it together, because there’s that much trust in the vendors that it’s going to be amazing. Such was the case for this recent Winter Wedding Styled Shoot at Folsom Field, published in Couture Colorado Weddings.
I wanted to do the shoot at Folsom Field because I had done a wedding there in the Fall. In fact, the first one at their newly finished space. I was taken by the views and so appreciated the helpful staff. I also love the versatility of the space; there are several rooms and decks where events can be hosted.
The rest of the team for the shoot came together based on mutual admiration, being local and showing off Colorado. I am based in Boulder; the rest of the vendors are based in Greeley, Denver, Vail and a lot more Boulder.
I love love love planning weddings, mostly because there’s nothing that compares to the absolute beauty and emotion of that day; the intense love and commitment between two people, witnessed and celebrated by their friends and family. I also loved planning this wedding styled shoot, mostly because of the camaraderie and teamwork among the vendors, bringing all the love they have of weddings to the table to create some inspirational eye candy.
Who are the talented vendors that made worked with me to make this shoot possible? They are: Rachel Gomez Photographs, Hanastyle Designs, Four13 Designs, Knotty Tie, J. Albrecht Designs, Piece Love & Chocolate, House of Yonder, Alchemy Face Bar, Anne Bé Bridal, Folsom Field and Levy Catering
